HDPE Heavy Duty Vacuum Bottles are designed to be leakproof and are tested to withstand full vacuum (14.8 PSI/765 mmHg) for a period of 24 hours. The material and volume, as well as metric graduation marks certified to ±5% accuracy, are clearly molded into the side of the bottle. Heavy Duty Vacuum Bottles are compatible with VersaCaps and adapters, to allow for a variety of top connection options. All VersaCaps and adapters are autoclavable. These 300 mL capacity bottles are recommended for the five-day BOD test as referenced in Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, 18th Edition, 5210B, 1992. BOD bottles have a specially designed shoulder radius that sweeps all air from inside the bottle during filling. The interchangeable stoppers have a tapered bottom that also prevents air entrapment. The bottles have a flared mouth, to form a water seal around the stopper, that prevents air from being drawn into the bottle during incubation. The stopper joint is compatible with the probes of the leading meters for BOD and dissolved oxygen. All bottles (except 0914U63) have large, permanently screened-on marking spots. The numbered versions are supplied with bar codes for quick and accurate recording of bottle numbers. All bottles are manufactured from Type 1 borosilicate glass and feature robotic stoppers. Thomas Number 0914U63 is a standard 300 mL BOD bottle with black PVC plastic coating that blocks all visible light up to 800 nm. This inhibits the production of oxygen by algae.
